United States – President himself, up to this point, was merely an observer as VP Kamala Harris came in and mobilized as well as awakened the Democrats, their likely nominee for the presidency. On Wednesday, Trump resumes playing the game.

Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, will host a campaign rally for the first time since Harris emerged as his almost-enduring Democratic rival in the 2024 election. The former president will attend an event in Charlotte, North Carolina, a key state in the November 5 election, as reported by Reuters.

The Trump campaign has claimed it already had a strategy on Harris emphasizing that she is Biden in all matters economic and immigration policies that made Biden unpopular among the voters.

A race that was re-jiggered on Tuesday courtesy of a poll conducted by Reuters-Ipsos ended up in a tie.

Polls Show a Tight Race

The poll, conducted two days after Joe Biden decided not to run for re-election, revealed that Harris leads Trump by two percentage points, 44% to 42%. Other national polls conducted in recent years have revealed Trump on the better side.

Biden, who returned to the White House from his residence in Delaware following a brief hospitalization due to COVID, will speak to Americans in the Oval Office on Wednesday night, describing why he pulled out of the race on Sunday following pressure from his party.

One of the people who were aware of the matter indicated that the speech defining the president’s legacy was still in the process of preparation on Tuesday evening when Biden returned to the White House after his convalescence in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where he completed the campaign for the second term with the letter sent to social media.

On Tuesday, speaking to reporters in the conference call, Trump attempted to support his campaign’s argument that the border was perpetually under invasion and that Harris was to be held partly accountable for the record-high migration.

Biden assigned Harris to leading the partnership with the countries in Central America with an aim of preventing migration, but she was not held accountable for border affairs.

Trump Criticizes Harris on Immigration

“She’s a radical left person, and this country doesn’t want a radical left person to destroy it,” Trump said on the call. “She wants open borders. She wants things that nobody wants.”

Harris has not called for the removal of border controls.

HARRIS ADDRESSES BLACK SORORITY

Harris will travel to Indianapolis on Wednesday to deliver a speech at the event organized by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, which was established at Howard University, Harris’s university. She wants to leverage sororities’ familial relationships, cutting across Black women’s generational cohorts, to guarantee high voter turnout in favor of the Democrats in the upcoming November elections.

Harris delivered an enthusiastic first rally with the momentum of a likely nominee on Tuesday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which was home to the GOP convention last week. She accused Trump and declared that he would drag the nation ‘backward.’

“Do we want to live in a country of freedom, compassion and rule of law, or a country of chaos, fear and hate?” she asked the crowd.

Harris presented a list of liberal policy priorities and stood ready to provide abortion rights, make the formation of unions easier, and address the issue of gun violence, pledging to do all that if elected, she was going to replace Trump.

Democratic Party Moves Forward

The Democrats will officially endorse their new ticket at a August 7 virtual vote, with the party convention to be held in Chicago in August next month. Former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper is among those tipped to possibly be the vice-presidential running mate for Kamala Harris.

Harris and her campaign have been very active and aggressive in trying to rally support for herself among Democrats both in Congress and across the country. Some of them were probable competitors for the nomination, and yet they obeyed and supported her, as reported by Reuters.

Harris Campaign Gains Momentum

Trump, who has been basking in a great week where his party closed ranks on his presidential bid after a failed assassination attempt two weekends ago, has had to look on helplessly. At the same time, the narrative abruptly changed with Biden withdrawing from the race, upending the spotlight on Harris, and leaving him behind.

Harris’s campaign confirmed that it has been able to collect over USD 100 million since Sunday.
