United States – Former president of the United States, Donald Trump, recently faced a very close shave with an assassination attempt, an incidence that has heightened the militancy of the former president’s evangelical base. Others see this as a sign from God, funny enough making others to believe that Trump is America’s God chosen man.

Trump’s campaigns have from time to time relied on religious icons branding him as the savior of a nation that is headed to the dogs. This approach has been criticized as cultism by the opponents insisting that Trump alone has the power to save America. In spite of these criticisms, the support from his evangelical community has remained unwavering, as reported by Reuters.

Evangelicals Cite Divine Intervention

During interviews with 18 delegates at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, only two did not believe that divine intervention played a role in Trump’s survival. Sharon D. Regan, a delegate from Florida, described the event as “God-given protection” and “miraculous.”

Trump’s Divine Narrative

Trump himself has framed his escape as an act of God. In a recent statement, he said, “It was God alone who stopped the unthinkable from happening,” further bolstering his image among religious supporters.

Historical Support from Evangelicals

In previous elections, evangelical voters have shown strong support for Trump, despite allegations of adultery and sexual misconduct. These voters often view him as an instrument of divine providence, standing against internal enemies.

Mystical Protection

Texas delegate Ray Myers expressed a belief in a mystical element to Trump’s survival, suggesting divine involvement in Trump’s continued political journey. This sentiment is echoed by many who see the incident as a sign of Trump’s God-ordained role.

Christian Media Perspective

Some Christian media outlets view Trump as a divine instrument, persecuted by evil forces. This narrative has only strengthened with the recent assassination attempt, which is seen as further evidence of his divine mission.

Social Media Imagery and Warnings Against Idolatry

Images depicting Trump as a Christ-like figure are widely shared on social media, and merchandise at his rallies often features similar themes. However, New Jersey delegate Melanie Collette warned against idolizing Trump, emphasizing the need for balance, as reported by Reuters.

Strategic Concerns

Republican pollster and Trump critic Mike Madrid stated that Trump was turning into a cultural icon that would push away voters in the general election. He opines that the depiction of Trump as a savior figure may not go well with other masses of people.
