United States – Kamala Harris, the vice-presidential nominee, and Tim Walz will appear in an interview with CNN on Thursday following the negativity from the Republicans, as well as some media outlets, regarding the fact that the Democratic presidential candidate has not held a direct interaction with journalists and other interviewers that would allow her interrogators to question her on various issues in detail, as reported by Reuters.

First Major Interview

The interview will be on Thursday at 9:PM ET (0100 GMT). In a statement issued on Tuesday, CNN said.

It will be Harris’ first interview since being selected as the Democratic candidate following President Joe Biden’s suspension of his bid for re-election on July 21st due to a poor debate performance.

Harris’ Media Engagement Under Scrutiny

Although Harris has responded to questions from journalists regarding foreign and economic policies during her campaign, she has not had a one-on-one media interview or a press conference familiar to politicians, and the presidential candidate, Donald Trump, has condemned her for this.

The interview will be conducted by CNN anchor Dana Bash, who will be located in the battleground state of Georgia, CNN said.

Key Issues and Policy Platforms

Last week at the Democratic National Convention, Harris presented some general policy platforms – a middle-class tax cut in the United States, a strong foreign policy apropos Russia and North Korea on the one hand, and support to a ceasefire in Gaza and a two-state solution to the Middle East conflict on the other.

She was expecting to undergo the one-on-one interviews in which she will be asked to provide more details in the last days to Election Day on November 5, during which she and Trump will again vie for votes, but the election is too close to call.

Contrast with Trump’s Media Strategy

In the past few weeks, Trump has conducted press briefings and interviews, but most of the time, he has been addressing the media, discussing the failures of the new president rather than putting forward a clear course of action to achieve his goals, as reported by Reuters.

The last time Harris was interviewed was in June, when she insisted on Biden’s policy achievements during the Biden-Trump debate and also pointed out that the US president began the debate slowly.
